  1. zebra crossing - paint the road in white before it is painted in red...

I think we miss a lot of zebra crossing in Manly. first it would allow our kids to cross the streets safely, second it would highly reduce the speed of so many cars. I am thinking about the flat before the eastern hill in particular, on the east esplanade, on darley road, on victoria parade, on ashburner street...if you walk down the hill, there is no way you can safely cross streets and get to manly CBD safely. it is only painting the road, why wait? why no one seems to be bothered? do we have to wait for our…

  5. Bring back/Introduce the deposit on glass and plastic bottles and cans....

    ....and address, potentially, three issues in one fell swoop;

    1.Reduced rubbish to be cleared at Rates payers' expense;
    2. Re-cycling plant work reduced (as already sorted into 'types')
    3. 'Employ' young people/destitutes as an alternative to getting into mischief.

This 'program' kept me and my mates busy when we were young and strapped for cash...

And get the 'environmentally aware/friendly' drinks-manufacturers to subsidise the program (deposits and staff wages).

  6. Protecting Sporting Facilities in Manly

One of the great things about Australia and Manly area is generally very good for sporting facilities. However due to the increasing cost of land, sporting facilities, especially those not owned by the council are under threat, as there is greater profit from land development. For example in the 4 or 5 years I have been here in tennis courts have been developed which where at North Curl Curl and last year Court Sports (Deewhy), which had 12 tennis courts, 8 squash courts and volley ball courts looked as if it may well be developed. (these are in Warringah, but…

  7. History Heritage and Art

Manly is well known for sun, swimming, eating and drinking. But I would love to see more promotion of the history, heritage, art and local business. Using our imaginations I am sure Manly's profile can be lifted and expanded to become known as the destination spot that has it all! One idea could be to have a Town crier on weekends dressed in period costume. He could be roaming the village stopping at various spots and crying out what is in that vicinity. Heritage and current business can be promoted. For example he could say “This is the location of…

  8. A pedestrian traffic light on the corner of The Corso & Whistler St.

People now wander across there without breaking stride or looking left or right. Someone will be hurt, not to mention the traffic hold up.
There is a light on the near corner of The Corso & Darley Rd, so why not on the corner near Manly Council Chambers?

  9. Alcohol consumption in East Boulevarde park

It seems lots of people bring alcoholic beverages to this grassed area to consume when it is zoned as an alcohol-free area. Most of the time this is fine. . but occasionally you see significant amounts of alcohol being consumed(with obvious impact). If there is a rule. . it should be policed.
Otherwise scrap the rule and assume people will drink responsibly.
Turning a blind eye doesn't seem responsible!

  10. Boats a Danger in Cabbage Tree Bay

Swimming in Cabbage Tree Bay is a delightful way for locals and tourists to appreciate Manly's pristine environment - until they find themselves competing with large boats that anchor in the bay. Not only is this frustrating for swimmers, snorkelers and divers but it poses a huge safety risk. Its time to get serious about banning boats in Cabbage Tree Bay.

  11. Harbour Pool near Manly Wharf

    An Idea:
Manly Council is currently looking at changing the netting structure at the harbour pool near Manly Wharf in an endeavour to provide a better habitat for the colony of seahorses that reside there. Could this pool be upgraded to a proper baths-style pool, with a timber perimeter walkway providing ladder-access to the water? (Have you seen the pool/baths at Balmoral for example)
This would have greater appeal to families providing a fun place to swim and a more memorable experience than the current 'temporary' netted pool enclosure.

  12. Manly's 2015 Plan

am very concerned regarding Manly Council's 2015 development proposal and when I speak with people, no-one seems to know anything about it.... I am extremely concerned with Ms Hay's proposal to demolish the Whistler street car park, library etc. and replace it with MORE units under the guise of making Manly more pedestrian friendly.

Additionally, their proposal to put an underground carpark under Manly oval seems an awful idea to me. I have reviewed their proposal but it doesn't state how cars will enter and exit. Will the cars exit and zoom up Raglan Street?

    If you could please start…

  13. Community Gardens

The community garden at 100 Griffith Street, Balgowlah has proven a great success http://www.balgowlahcg.com and while many people in suburbs like Seaforth and Balgowlah Hts already have a garden, there are thousands of unit dwellers in our area who don't.

Do you think Manly Council should encourage more community gardens? Would you be interested in participating in one?

  15. Speed Humps at North Head

North Head is a popular place to cycle - except for the speed humps which are a real hazard!
Why can't we make the humps 'cycle friendly' and let's encourage more people to use their bikes in this wonderful area?

  16. Can we have more bins on the beach

I would be a good idea to have more bins on the beach or by the beach to prevent the heaps of litter left behind by visitors and locals.

  17. Trees on the East Esplanade Reserve

Background – Compared to West Esplanade the trees on East Esplanade Reserve are looking very tired right from the Wharf to the Manly Cove Motor Yacht Club shed. Many Norfolk Island Pines are missing, dying or dead. There are also several Cook Island Pines that are very dense and twisted and spoil the views. The large Morton Bay Fig at the bottom of Osbourne Road is mature and the Port Jackson Fig between it and the Motor Yacht Club is very decayed.

Proposal – About fourteen new Norfolk Island Pines should be planted on the East Esplanade between Wentworth and…
