Intergenerational Community Centre
The recent ABC program Old People's Home for Teenagers created a temporary Intergenerational Community Centre at North Head. Why not find a permanent home and sponsorship for such a great program?

security
We can only hope that Manly Council can provide sufficient security personell to stop New Years Eve Party goers from urinating, defecating, drug taking, copulating and other anti-social behaviour on local residents properties along East and West Esplanade by the minority of party goers who spoil a fantastic evening for 99 pc of revellers who recognise that private property does not mean the public can trespassdo participate in anti-social behaviour.

Save the heritage trees in the forecourt
We could lose the wonderful heritage trees in the forecourt in front of the old Council building (and in other areas) because of damage by pest cockatoos. Besides the threat to the trees the branch and leaf litter is ugly. Is it because conservationists who normally care are split between these birds (who have become a pest in urban environments) and the future of these magnificent trees. Does anyone know if the matter is even being considered?

Surely Manly SLSC should not be allowed to expand to take up significant public beachfront land
Manly SLSC should have a well considered renovation, not a significant expansion taking away large chunks of much loved and utilised public beachfront land. A surf club doesn't require 3 storey structure with cafe and function centre - we have enough wedding venues already in Manly.

Extend the Corso no car area to some more streets.
I saw a city in California on TV recently that had a large planned no car area and it looked good.

Change the Day
Celebrate Australia Day on a different day. This has been done by 2 councils in Victoria, and we could lead the way here, showing genuine respect to Aboriginal people. Citizenship ceremonies no longer have to take place on 26th January, so the way is clear.

Better community recycling for soft plastics and food waste
From watching the War on Waste it is clear that our Council is not on the forefront of recycling, either in NSW or Australia. How about a soft plastics program like the one on the Central Coast or better bin services which include food waste like the ones in SA? Having to drive your recycling at long intervals to a designated place (eg Kimbriki or Warringah) for a short pick-up period is not really practical and will not make any real difference.

Little manly beach reserve
Rather than spending precious Council cash on the houses at Little Manly when there is already so much open space in that area, the properties should be developed and sold off. By Council controlling the development the right balance can be struck between capitalising on the location and not being overbearing. Then the money can be used to pursue some of the other great ideas like making parking easier and cheaper in the CBD.

Educate Manly
Teach those who have never traveled abroad or who currently swim in money that there is more to life than upgrading gardens and pools, or altering speed humps.. Most people in Manly focus on minute flaws in their luxury lifestyle but I propose we help these folk learn just how much more other people need our time and money.

Finally get something happening at the old North Manly Bowling Club.
I acknowledge that there will be a new gymnastics centre built (but when? and is this really the best use of these facilities and corner block location? Pittwater Rd is crowded with parked cars whenever there's a touch rugby competition or even training and I feel we could easily upgrade parking facilities at the bowling club, possibly with a neighbourhood garden, or even just some local community facilities.

zebra crossing - paint the road in white before it is painted in red...
I think we miss a lot of zebra crossing in Manly. first it would allow our kids to cross the streets safely, second it would highly reduce the speed of so many cars. I am thinking about the flat before the eastern hill in particular, on the east esplanade, on darley road, on victoria parade, on ashburner street...if you walk down the hill, there is no way you can safely cross streets and get to manly CBD safely. it is only painting the road, why wait? why no one seems to be bothered? do we have to wait for our…

A conservatorium of music / performing arts centre
Currently, only 1.96% of Sydney Youth Orchestra members come from the Northern Beaches. That's the lowest of any region in Sydney. In fact more SYO members come from country NSW than the Northern Beaches. We need to start supporting the arts so that our kids don't continue to miss out. See: http://nbcon.wordpress.com/

clean up the discarded bikes
Manly is decorated with rusty, unusable, discarded bikes. World Pride we have had, how about some Manly pride? Was there any effort to tidy up the suburb for yet another major event, the NSW Surf Lifesaving Championships. The whole suburb is grotty. Do the Councillors and Council Officers ever walk around and look at the place they are responsible for? One man, half a day, a small truck and a battery-powered grinder would make a big difference.

beach parking discrimination against renters
Would love the GoodforManly to investigate on behalf of renters in the new Northern Beaches Council area. Just went to enquire at council office regarding renewing my beach parking sticker only to be told that as I am a renter, I will have to pay $200 to obtain one. Stickers are now sent to owners who are under no obligation to pass them on to tenants. Wonder how many of these free stickers will be sold on? I hope anyone standing for council in future will be aware that out of area owners don't vote, renters living on the beachfront…

Lack of information to the Rate Payers
I am concerned that Manly Council treats the ratepayers like idiots. Our elected reps are proposing to spend huge money on various ideas but we are not allowed to see any of the important data. The Pool debacle is a case in point. The Council stated that their cost estimate of $15m would be covered by a "low" interest govt. loan. Apparently, the quotes range upwards from $26m, but this gross miscalculation is not being shared with us. Based on their lack of ability, It scares me to think what the Oval debacle will blow out to. How do we demand…

Rubbish bin
Hi, It would be good to have a public rubbish bin in the courtyard outside the Manly library. There are lots of cafes and restaurants there and the only bins are on Sydney Rd or the shop's private bins.

Parking permit with variable date
Manly area parking permits are provided with a fixed date (end of March each year) meaning we all come in to renew at the same time. This is neither efficient nor convenient for those that need to acquire a permit at any time other than March each year.

survey on shark netting
The State Government says it will consult with local governments before it decides whether to end shark netting. Media reports include: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-06/nsw-government-shark-net-tenders-newcastle-wollongong-beaches/102568470
NBC's submission would be strengthened were a survey to demonstrate a clear preference.
I swim in the ocean most days and would like to see the nets go. Snakes and crocodiles are protected and so should sharks and all the by-catch creatures from this out-dated measure.

Lost amenity at Little Manly Kiosk
We, the Little Manly locals, used to have a roomy shelter at Little Manly Kiosk, with seating, to escape the sun or the rain when picnicking or swimming. Now we are locked out, reduced to a piece of concrete floor, as shown in the attached photo. And why? To save a commercial company Ripples the effort of stacking away the chairs and tables each day, as has been done for many years past. Why does the council allow this loss of amenity to locals, without providing an alternative?
