Lost amenity at Little Manly Kiosk
We, the Little Manly locals, used to have a roomy shelter at Little Manly Kiosk, with seating, to escape the sun or the rain when picnicking or swimming. Now we are locked out, reduced to a piece of concrete floor, as shown in the attached photo. And why? To save a commercial company Ripples the effort of stacking away the chairs and tables each day, as has been done for many years past. Why does the council allow this loss of amenity to locals, without providing an alternative?

Parking permit with variable date
Manly area parking permits are provided with a fixed date (end of March each year) meaning we all come in to renew at the same time. This is neither efficient nor convenient for those that need to acquire a permit at any time other than March each year.

survey on shark netting
The State Government says it will consult with local governments before it decides whether to end shark netting. Media reports include: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-06/nsw-government-shark-net-tenders-newcastle-wollongong-beaches/102568470
NBC's submission would be strengthened were a survey to demonstrate a clear preference.
I swim in the ocean most days and would like to see the nets go. Snakes and crocodiles are protected and so should sharks and all the by-catch creatures from this out-dated measure.

Landscaping for dogs
It would be good to have more small landscaped areas around Manly CBD. Similar to the one between Whistler car park and the library. They only have to be a couple of metres in area, have some resilient plants, mulch etc. For instance the base of the trees along Sydney Rd pedestrian area could be slightlly enlarged to add some native grasses or low plants. This would be more attractive, also a place for dogs to wee on their walks. As there seem to be more dogs in the area.

Tide marker at the Jump Rock
In regards to the Jump Rock - yes, please remove the fence and try making it safer.
Instead of your suggestion of requiring an app to check the tide, how about simply adding a red-amber-green "tide marker" sign and/or paint on the rock face, so that when the red shows (i.e. the red colour is not submerged) it's too shallow to jump, and if only the green is visible it is ok. Or something along those lines.1 vote -

RESTRICTED PARKING IN WEST STREET
Finding a parking space along West Street between White Street and Sydney Road is a real pain in the neck.
I suppose I coul be wrong but I think it's mostly weekday commuters causing the issue.
Can the council address this issue by restricting parking in some way?
Thank you.

Council to audit existing footpaths and where no footpath exists on either side of the street, construct a footpath especially where there is a pedestrian safety issue. Hand dryers in Beachfront Public Toilets
Hi Candy,
Good luck in the upcoming Elections.
I see you would like my vote in the Council Elections, and I wonder what your attitude is to reducing the spread of COVID and other infections during this Pandemic?
As a retired Pharmacist, it has come to my attention that almost every public toilet on the beachfront in the Northern Beaches lacks hand drying facilities and consequently discourages people from washing their hands.
I thought it might only be Manly where I live, but in talking to several of my friends from Palm Beach to Manly it appears that this is…1 vote -

Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link
Local residents have an opportunity to attend a meeting on the proposed Western Harbour Tunnel & Beaches Link on this Saturday 17 June.
I support the tunnel for the benefit of all Northern Beaches residents, but feel concerned that an exhaust chimney could possibly be located in the Seaforth area.
There may be technologies available to treat the exhausts and if so our community need to be assured that the very best treatments will be applied. Does this issue concern other residents?
(The RMS meeting is from 10am to 2pm at the Seaforth Community Centre, Baringa Ave, Seaforth).

Trial artificial turf on E. Esplanade
It seems like the grass is always struggling on E. Esplanade, aka "The Office", probably because of it's popularity, the big trees, and salt/sand from the winter Southerlies. Maybe council can trial some artificial turf which might save some $$ in the long run? Or is turf hard to maintain? Maybe turf in a few high-wear areas (directly under the middle trees or directly in front of the benches close to the promenade).
I'm sure there will be plenty of detractors (takes away from the natural beauty, etc.)...but just a thought.

I write in regard to the future of the Manly Council Chambers building. I strongly suggest that the NBC undertake a search to locate the significant report and supporting documents prepared for Manly Council by Professor Lawrence Nield during my time at Manly Council (DTC, Town Clerk and General manager). This report, drawings and early considerations and recommendations seem to have been lost but it may possibly be located in the State Government Repository in western Sydney.
Lawrence Nield was commissioned to assess and report on all council owned assets in and around the Manly business area Some of his…
