beach parking discrimination against renters
Would love the GoodforManly to investigate on behalf of renters in the new Northern Beaches Council area. Just went to enquire at council office regarding renewing my beach parking sticker only to be told that as I am a renter, I will have to pay $200 to obtain one. Stickers are now sent to owners who are under no obligation to pass them on to tenants. Wonder how many of these free stickers will be sold on? I hope anyone standing for council in future will be aware that out of area owners don't vote, renters living on the beachfront do. Go back to the system where you prove residency to get a parking permit.

Mr Peter Bell from the council advises me that renters are privileged as they get to pay $200 for a beach parking permit that is supplied free to owners of homes. His reasoning - non-residents are charged $500. So I should be pleased that I am not a third class citizen but a second class citizen. He also tells me that since when polled most of the community were in favour of a single parking ticket (though they were not told that they were going to have a new cost) this implies support for the charge. We must have attended different schools of logic.

Yes, this certainly has become an issue. The owners pay the rates and therefore as ratepayers they get the parking permits which they should pass onto their tenants!
Agree, it needs review and could be a good election issue - as does all things to do with parking in Manly.
