  1. A conservatorium of music / performing arts centre

Currently, only 1.96% of Sydney Youth Orchestra members come from the Northern Beaches. That's the lowest of any region in Sydney. In fact more SYO members come from country NSW than the Northern Beaches. We need to start supporting the arts so that our kids don't continue to miss out. See: http://nbcon.wordpress.com/

  2. Harbour Pool near Manly Wharf

    An Idea:
Manly Council is currently looking at changing the netting structure at the harbour pool near Manly Wharf in an endeavour to provide a better habitat for the colony of seahorses that reside there. Could this pool be upgraded to a proper baths-style pool, with a timber perimeter walkway providing ladder-access to the water? (Have you seen the pool/baths at Balmoral for example)
This would have greater appeal to families providing a fun place to swim and a more memorable experience than the current 'temporary' netted pool enclosure.

  3. Trial artificial turf on E. Esplanade

It seems like the grass is always struggling on E. Esplanade, aka "The Office", probably because of it's popularity, the big trees, and salt/sand from the winter Southerlies. Maybe council can trial some artificial turf which might save some $$ in the long run? Or is turf hard to maintain? Maybe turf in a few high-wear areas (directly under the middle trees or directly in front of the benches close to the promenade).

I'm sure there will be plenty of detractors (takes away from the natural beauty, etc.)...but just a thought.

  4. Boats a Danger in Cabbage Tree Bay

Swimming in Cabbage Tree Bay is a delightful way for locals and tourists to appreciate Manly's pristine environment - until they find themselves competing with large boats that anchor in the bay. Not only is this frustrating for swimmers, snorkelers and divers but it poses a huge safety risk. Its time to get serious about banning boats in Cabbage Tree Bay.

  5. Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link

Local residents have an opportunity to attend a meeting on the proposed Western Harbour Tunnel & Beaches Link on this Saturday 17 June.

I support the tunnel for the benefit of all Northern Beaches residents, but feel concerned that an exhaust chimney could possibly be located in the Seaforth area.

There may be technologies available to treat the exhausts and if so our community need to be assured that the very best treatments will be applied. Does this issue concern other residents?

(The RMS meeting is from 10am to 2pm at the Seaforth Community Centre, Baringa Ave, Seaforth).

  6. Community Gardens

The community garden at 100 Griffith Street, Balgowlah has proven a great success http://www.balgowlahcg.com and while many people in suburbs like Seaforth and Balgowlah Hts already have a garden, there are thousands of unit dwellers in our area who don't.

Do you think Manly Council should encourage more community gardens? Would you be interested in participating in one?

  8. Manly Council needs to have the Christmas Carol night at the Oval, not the Corso as currently planned.!

    https://www.change.org/p/manly-council-change-christmas-carols-back-to-manly-oval

Please email Council and sign the petition. The change is not family friendly and will cost us ratepayers buckets more than holding at the Oval where 6,000+ have enjoyed the event. Imagine sitting on concrete trying to enjoy a picnic in front of the Steyne Hotel... Not a great idea!!

  10. Christmas Carols should be held on Manly Oval. Manly Council is ruining traffic and parking in Manly.

Christmas Carols should be held on Manly Oval. It is the appropriate setting for this event, family friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. Why change such a great community event. In addition, why is Manly Council deliberately making changes to traffic & parking conditions in Manly. The only reason appears to be to make the traffic congestion so bad and limit the supply of car parking spaces, that they force people into the conclusion that a massive car park is required under Manly Oval. Given their mismanagement of other large infrastructure projects, are there any guarantees that they will be…

  11. What's Happening at Grahams Reserve? First the dog-walkers and then the dog owners?

Is Grahams being taken over by Manly Warringah District Cricket Club? When Manly Oval car park is under construction the club is moving to Grahams. What is going to happen to the dogs. Grahams is the only safe, fully fenced off-leash dog park in Manly.

  12. RESTRICTED PARKING IN WEST STREET

Finding a parking space along West Street between White Street and Sydney Road is a real pain in the neck.

I suppose I coul be wrong but I think it's mostly weekday commuters causing the issue.

Can the council address this issue by restricting parking in some way?

    Thank you.

  13. Affordable housing: Affordable for whom?

Between the idea and the reality, between the policy and the developer falls... the failings of the previous Labour government? Developers of boarding houses love to cut and past from AHSEPP when submitting DAs, specifically that boarding houses are for, amongst others, key workers like our teachers, nurses, and police officers who cannot otherwise afford to live in the communities they service. A worthy sentiment--the 'idea'--we should all support. But what of the reality? Who lives in these developments really? Maximum tariffs only apply to developments seeking land tax exemption. In 2013 that was $368 for a double and $261…

  14. Ok so NO to develop under the oval but what are the alternatives?

Don't agree with the argument that this is to far away from the Manly Cbd or isn't good for local business. Because visitors only have to cross one road and walk past local businesses to the beach. Plus with 3 hour parking for locals and a new water park where will visitors park?

  15. Take the jack boots off the rangers...They aren't police. They should not dress, nor act like police.

Take the jack boots off the rangers...They aren't police. They should not dress, nor act like police.

Heavy handed rangers are are such a detriment to the community of Manly at the moment. There is a poor attitude among the rangers, and their behaviour is more and more authoritarian, and less valuable members of the community. Take the army boots away, and set a new tone for service and community, not enforcement and monitoring.

  17. Parking permit with variable date

Manly area parking permits are provided with a fixed date (end of March each year) meaning we all come in to renew at the same time. This is neither efficient nor convenient for those that need to acquire a permit at any time other than March each year.

  18. An exercise area on the Manly to the Spit walk

The Bondi to Bronte walkway has exercise equipment an intervals along the way (chin up bars, sit up benches and rings). This equipment gets heaps of use. Adding such equipment to the Spit to Manly walk would make great use of space (particularly near the Fairlight Pool) and promote healthy living at a low cost.

  19. Educate Manly

Teach those who have never traveled abroad or who currently swim in money that there is more to life than upgrading gardens and pools, or altering speed humps.. Most people in Manly focus on minute flaws in their luxury lifestyle but I propose we help these folk learn just how much more other people need our time and money.

I saw a city in California on TV recently that had a large planned no car area and it looked good.
